Reno County Commissioners again hear opponents of wind farm proposal

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission again heard from those opposed to the proposed Next Era Wind Energy wind farm that is headed to the planning commission for consideration.

Kristi Horsh, who is an advocate for taking time to study the issue further, gave a passionate speech where she talked of stepping back before any decisions are made:

She’s also concerned when it comes to setbacks for the wind project, which is scheduled to begin construction next spring if all goes well:

Apparently, the planning commission is starting to get a lot of emails and letters over the proposal. Commissioner Dan Deming noted that the agenda for the planning commission meetings are not on the county website and need to be there so those interested in this project as well as any others can view them.

Meanwhile, Next Era Energy officials have yet to submit an application for the proposed wind farm with Spencer Jenkins. The company says that they are still working with the planning department on the paperwork, but hope to submit the application by the end of the year.
