Luminous Neon was recognized for their outstanding efforts in workplace wellness programming at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce’s April Membership Breakfast. The Work Well Reno Award is a brand new award given out quarterly.

Luminous Neon began their workplace wellness agenda in July 2009, citing rising health care costs as their initial reason. Marla Eriksen, Vice President of Regional Operations, said “We also understood that healthier employees meant a healthier business.”

Luminous Neon encourages wellness by providing onsite biometric screenings, having employees complete an online health risk assessment, and having employees track their exercise a minimum of 30 minutes a day, three times a week. They report having 70% employee participation, and employees receive financial incentives for meeting healthy goals.

In response to the expense of the program, they noted a return on their investment by having a more productive staff, less sick time away from work, better attitudes, and fewer workmen’s compensation claims. Eriksen also said that studies have shown for every dollar spent on wellness, a company gets a $4 return.

Luminous Neon has six offices state-wide, and offers the same wellness opportunities at each location. They have also been recognized for their efforts in the Wichita Business Journal, making their list of healthiest employers the past two years.
