Hutchinson girls fall to Central in OT

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson High Salthawks lost to the Central High Mustangs 61-56 in overtime Friday night.

Hutchinson’s Jayla Bynum fights to keep the ball away from Central’s defenders. This is Bynum’s last year at Hutchinson High.

The Salthawks started slowly as the Mustangs took a 20-10 lead after one quarter.

By halftime, Central was still ahead by 11 points at 33-22.

Hutchinson fell further behind in the third quarter when Central extended the lead to 41-29.

However, halfway through the final quarter, the Salthawks pushed back and started making their way closer to the Mustangs. With a three-pointer, back-to-back jumpers, and a final layup, Hutchinson sent the game into overtime at 47 all.

The Salthawks started off strong with a three-pointer just seconds into overtime.

But with a three-pointer and six successful freethrows, the Mustangs won 61-56.

Hutchinson faces Eisenhower High School at home on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 7:15 p.m.
