Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder announced Tuesday afternoon that he has formally filed for re-election as the local D-A.

Schroeder came to the office, initially as an intern under then County Attorney Tim Chambers. That was in 1988, then he became an full time Assistant D-A under Chambers in 1989. When Chambers announced that he was running for District Judge, Schroeder then ran for office, running against Kevin O’Conner who was an Assistant D-A in Sedgwick County, but at that time lived in Hutchinson. Schroeder won the office.

Schroeder has been the D-A for the past 12-years and assuming that he wins again, this would be his fourth term.

Schroeder who initially ran against O’Conner is now seeking to hire him as an special prosecutor to handle some cases for the county. O’Conner is running for D-A in Sedgwick County now that Nola Foulston is retiring.

There have been rumors circulating around the Reno County Courthouse that local Attorney Sam Kepfield may run against Schroeder for the D-A position, but he told us Tuesday afternoon that he’s merely exploring the possibility, and has made no formal announcement, nor has he filed to run for the office.
