Trinity defeats Sacred Heart in double overtime

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Trinity needed double overtime to beat Sacred Heart 75-71 Friday night.

Trinity’s Kaleb Hammeke fights his way to the basket. Hammeke made five critical free throws in the double OT affair.

The two teams were equally matched and it showed in their long battle on the court.

Trinity led 17-14 after one.

The Celtics fell behind 32-30 at halftime.

Trinity’s Evan Remar skillfully faked out Sacred Heart’s defense to pull the Celtics within four at 45-41.

Just a second before the end of regulation, the Knights hit a jumper to send the game into OT tied at 59.

Sacred Heart briefly pulled ahead, but fouled Trinity right before the buzzer. Evan Remar made both of his free throws to tie the game at 66 and send it into double overtime.

The Celtics used free throws to seal the 75-71 victory.

Trinity travels to Bennington Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m.
