PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Kansas is getting about $21 million to expand community health centers in five cities including Hutchinson.

The Department of Health and Human Services said in a news release Tuesday that the 21- million dollars is from the Affordable Care Act. The federal act provides about 9.5-billion dollars to expand services over five years and 1.5-billion to support construction and renovation projects at community health centers.

That includes the Prairie Star Health Center in Hutchinson who will be getting 5-million dollars. They’ve already announced a news conference for Friday to talk about the funds coming their way.

Others include the Konza Prairie Community Health Center, in Junction City which gets about $4.5 million, Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, in Pittsburg will receive $4.7 million; Salina Health Education Foundation, will get $2.7 million and the Hunter Health Clinic in Wichita, which gets about $4.6 million.

The department says about 728-million dollars is going to health centers nationwide which they say will bring access to healthcare to as many as 860-thousand patients.
