HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After meeting with the public Monday, GreenPlay was back before the city council and Hutch Rec at a special meeting Tuesday.

GreenPlay revealed its findings from a master plan study.

The study showed the many strengths of the city’s parks and rec system, and some of its needs. One need that came up the most was walkability, or the ability to get to and from city parks. Dr. Teresa Pembrook of GreenPlay talks about the need for better park access:

 

GreenPlay found the parks system has great variety. There is ample opportunities for great events at many of the sporting venues. The study found the parks to have ample spacing with a great number of trails, especially at Dillon Nature Center. The company feels the city needs better park marketing, better ADA accessibility and more access to the Arkansas River. GreenPlay says the city needs to catch up on deferred maintenance.

Officials with GreenPlay told the group Tuesday it will have a list of recommendations ready in April. Another public forum is set for April 23.
