Hutchinson Community Foundation awards mini-grants

The Hutchinson Community Foundation has awarded Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) mini- grants to seven area child care facilities and home providers enabling them to promote a culture of healthy living to children in their care.

The funding was made available by a Nutrition and Physical Activity grant awarded to the Community Foundation by the Kansas Health Foundation.

The grant awardees will be honored at the May 4th meeting of the Reno County Child Care Coalition.

Awardees and a brief summary of their proposed improvements are:

Hutchinson Community College Child Care Center – $1000 to build a raised garden area and
purchase a cold frame unit to enable year-around gardening activities

Hutchinson YMCA/Y-Tykes program – $995 to purchase a Grocery Store dramatic play area and equipment

Montessori Learning Center – $1000 to purchase outdoor play equipment

Rockin’ J’s Child Care Center – $1,000 to purchase kitchen play equipment and outdoor play equipment

South Hutchinson After School Kids and Preschool – $1000 to purchase a Kid Fit Gym set

Ally’s Day Care – $490 to purchase outdoor play equipment

Marcia Mackey – $500 to purchase an outdoor climber and build a raised garden
