HUDSON – A Stafford County search warrant ended with a brief standoff Wednesday in the northern part of Stafford County.

Stafford County Sheriff Jeff Parr told the Great Bend Post that it started around 9:30 a-m when Edward County officials tried to serve a search warrant. This was over reported stolen copper wire taken off irrigation equipment in Edwards County. One individual had apparently been arrested in that county.

The standoff with one of the suspects lasted 15-to-20 minutes. That individual apparently came out of a camper. After he eventually dropped his weapon, he was apprehended.

A woman also came out of an open garage, and according to Sheriff Parr, a man then ran with a gas jug, or a gallon jug as he described it, but they took off after him, and he was eventually found.

Two males and two females were arrested after the incident, but according to the sheriff and there may have also been drugs involved in the case.

The sheriff says the person who actually lived at the home was not present saying he in jail, but didn’t specify why.

Assisting agencies included Stafford, St. John, Macksville, and Great Bend Police departments, Barton and Edwards County Sheriff’s Offices, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The investigation is ongoing.
