SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Most residents expected the South Hutchinson City Council to decline the proposal for Sunday alcohol sales. The council did just that. The rejection came on the same day grocery and convenience stores in Kansas were stocking their shelves with stronger beer.

The request came from South Hutchinson businessman Greg Dovel, who wanted to sell alcohol on Sunday.

Jeff Dovel, who is on the city council and is the brother of Greg Dovel, abstained from voting. However, the rest of the council voted in favor of the ordinance banning the sale of any type of alcoholic beverage on Sunday within the city of South Hutchinson.

There is a 60-day protest period. The ordinance will have to be published before it officially takes effect.
