Two injured in 2-vehicle accident southeast of Haven

HAVEN, Kan. — Two people were transported to a Wichita hospital after a two-vehicle accident just before 7 a.m. Tuesday along K-96 at Worthington.

The two vehicles involved suffered heavy damage and were on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Gavin Wakefield, 24, of Hutchinson was driving eastbound on K-96. Another vehicle — driven by James Hammett, 47, of Haven — entered the eastbound lanes of the highway off Worthington Road. Wakefield told Reno County sheriff’s deputies he didn’t have enough time to react and struck the back of Hammett’s vehicle.

Hammett’s wife, Amy, 44, and Daniel Hammett, 15, were transported by Haven EMS to Wesley Medical Center for minor injuries. Gavin Wakefield and James Hammett were not injured.
