HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Siemens Gamesa has introduced a new larger wind turbine, but it is not known if Hutchinson will see any of the work that goes along with its assembly.
The company has introduced a new onshore platform: the Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform. The platform encompasses two turbine models: the SG 5.8-155 and the SG 5.8-170. The new turbine is the largest onshore platform at 5.8 MW with two different rotor spans.
According to Kaile Gurney of Siemens Gamesa, any decision on how Hutchinson will be involved depends entirely on demand. As of now, the different components will be manufactured at the Siemens Gamesa facilities where the platform is being utilized.
The Hutchinson facility recently underwent a major retooling to accommodate the new Siemens Gamesa 2.3 MW platform that began production early last year.
