One person was taken to a Wichita hospital after a two vehicle accident on U-S 50 after a two vehicle accident over the weekend.

One vehicle was driven by 26-year-old Adam Thomas Wilcox and the other driven by 79-year-old Robert Alford of Great Bend.

Wilcox is a track coach for Neosho Community College in Chanute and had a number of athletes with him, and had apparently left the track meet in Hutchinson.

According to the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, both vehicles were traveling west on U-S-50 and Wilcox was signaling to make a left turn onto Riverton Road. Allford began to pass the Wilcox vehicle and struck the his vehicle in the drivers side door. Allford’s vehicle rolled onto its side on the south side of U-S 50. Initial reports indicated at least on person was trapped in the Allford vehicle; however when emergency personnel arrival, both occupants had been extricated by the Neosho athletes.

Robert Allford suffered minor injuries and refused treatment. However, Jenny Allford complained of neck and back pain. She also had a deep laceration to her right forearm. She was transported by Midwest Lifeteam to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. None of the athletes in the Wilcox vehicle suffered any injuries.

Allford was issued a citation for improper passing

The accident occurring about 4:50 p-m, Saturday on U-S 50 and Riverton Road.
