K-DOT announces that 56th Street is again open to traffic north of Hutchinson

56th Street is open once again, but the new portion of K-61 highway is still not open.

Kansas Department of Transportation officials announced Monday afternoon that 56th Street is back open near the new K-61 Highway project between Halstead and Tobacco Road.

The street has been closed for the past couple of months while the old asphalt pavement was removed, earth work completed, and concrete pavement with connections to the four interchange ramps were constructed in the area of the new K-61 highway bridges.

This will help some with traffic congestion on 43rd, but 30th is still closed with work going on the west side of the intersection with the new K-61. That two is expected to be complete soon, then work will begin on the east side of the intersection.

And there will also need to be a connection made to the northbound lanes, north of Medora to the existing highway to match up with whats already been done going into McPherson County.
