Ruth Joyce De Shazo | 1933 – 2019 |

Ruth Joyce De Shazo, 85, of Hutchinson, died April 20, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson Village. She was born July 27, 1933, in Johnston City, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Spiller) De Shazo.

Ruth graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951 and Salt City Business College. She also received schooling in court reporting. Ruth worked for many years as a legal assistant in private law firms and for county, state, and federal courts. She loved reading, playing Scrabble, doing puzzles, and ‘brain’ games. Ruth also did some modeling and was an extra in two movies, Wait Til the Sun Shines, Nellie and Picnic.

She is survived by: daughters, Leslie Fuller (fiancé, Floyd Logan Jr.), Stefanie Abbott (Mike), Valerie Schmidt (Bryan), all of Hutchinson, Jacquie Chansler, St. Joseph, MO; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Burnett, Halstead.

Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents; soulmate, Ralph Kelpine; grandson, Zhree Walters; and brother, Fred De Shazo.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.

Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
