ARLINGTON – A 71-year-old Kingman man was killed this morning in a one vehicle accident near Arlington in Reno County.

According to Reno County Sheriff Captain Wayne Baughman, around 8:20 a-m, Reno County Sheriff Deputies, Reno County District “4” Fire and Pretty Prairie E-M-S, were dispatched to K-61 and K14 and Hodge Rd., a location just west of the city of Arlington, for a one vehicle crash with entrapment. When they arrived, they found a 2007 Toyota Corolla, upside down and resting on the Union Pacific tracks.

Fire units had to use the “Jaws of life” to free the driver, Lloyd Patterson of Kingman. He was the only occupant.

The investigation shows that he was north bound on K14 and Hodge Rd. failed to stop at the stop sign at K-61, then crossed that roadway and struck a road sign, then went into the north ditch where it rolled and came to rest on the railroad tracks.

Patterson was unconscious and possibly had a medical condition that contributed to the accident.

Midwest Lifeteam Helicopter was dispatched to the scene, however Patterson was transported by ground ambulance to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center where he died shortly after arrival.
