HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Health Department is encouraging everyone to know their numbers when it comes to high blood pressure.

This is High Blood Pressure Education Month and a time when you should find out if you are at risk for high blood pressure and stroke.

If left undiagnosed or untreated, high blood pressure can lead to serious health problems including heart disease, stroke and even death.

In Kansas during 2017, more than 5,700 deaths resulted from heart disease, making it the leading cause of death in the state. Stroke contributed to more than 1,300 of those deaths.

The Hutchinson Public Library will hold a free blood pressure test May 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. On May 21, there will be a free test from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Hutchinson Mall. Free testing will be held at the library again on May 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
