HUTCHINSON, Kan. — For years, local law enforcement celebrated the Special Olympics with the torch relay from Hutchinson to Wichita. While the relay is no longer part of the celebration, the run will still take place in the downtown area.
As part of Third Thursday, area law enforcement will join Special Olympics athletes from Reno County to run with the torch on Main Street. The run will start around 5:45 p.m. at DCI Park. The runners will head south on Main Street to Avenue B.
The event is a sendoff for local athletes as they prepare for the Summer State Games track meet in Wichita.
