Postal Service Food Drive brings in over 25K pounds of food

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It didn’t break the record of 26,000 pounds set in 2017, but it did beat last year’s effort.

“Last year, we had around 23,000, this year we had 25,560, that’s around 35 barges that we took to the food bank,” Angela Fabian, food drive coordinator for the Hutchinson Post Office, said. “We had a lot of volunteers that were out there. We worked from around 9 o’clock in the morning starting to pick up food on the routes and then we got done around 6 p.m. that evening.”

The initial numbers from Saturday showed the post office collected 25,135 pounds of food. An additional 425 pounds of food was collected the last two days.

All of the food collected goes to the Reno County Food Bank.
