TOPEKA – At approximately 2:00 p-m, Wednesday, Lansing Correctional Facility (LCF) says 59-year-old Gary Leslie Furthmyer was taken into custody in Kansas City, Kansas.

He was taken to the Wyandotte County jail where he was positively identified and then returned to the Lansing prison.

Kansas Department of Corrections Secretary Ray Roberts Wednesday thanked the U-S Marshals office, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department, the Crimestoppers TIPS Hotline, the Enforcement, Apprehensions, and Investigation (EAI) unit of the KDOC and all other law enforcement agencies for their assistance in locating Furthmyer.

According to EAI officials, more than a dozen tips were called in to the Hotline, one of which led directly to the capture of Furthmyer in the 600 block of Nebraska in Kansas City, Kansas.

It was three weeks ago on April 18, at approximately 3:00 a-m, that staff at Lansing confirmed that Furthmyer escaped from his minimum custody job assignment at the facility Steam Plant.

He was serving a six to 25-year sentence due to a 1985 Sedgwick County conviction for indecent liberties with a child, and aggravated failure to appear.
