HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It has rained a lot over the past month as evident by the flooding around central Kansas.
In fact, the area has received more than four times the average for the month of May with one day left. Statistics from the National Weather Service reporting station at the Hutchinson airport shows the area has received about 13.5 inches of rainfall this month. The average rainfall for the month of May is just over four inches.
The monthly report shows one rain event where more than four inches of rain fell over three days and another May 5 through May 8 where more than five inches of precipitation hit the area. With one day left on the calendar, it has rained in Hutchinson 17 days.
During the month of April, the area received a total of 3.17 inches of moisture with nearly half of that falling on April 30.
