HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 33-year-old woman charged in a drug distribution case waived her right to a preliminary hearing Monday and entered a guilty plea for two charges. The rest of her charges were dismissed.

Francesca Wharton is now guilty of being in possession of methamphetamine and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The state dropped the other charges as part of a plea agreement. Those charges included possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, possession of personal use drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Law enforcement served two search warrants: one on a vehicle, the other on a local home.

Besides the meth and paraphernalia, officers also found a Winchester .22 caliber rifle that was reported stolen through the Reno County Sheriff’s Office. An additional Glock handgun was also found in the residence.

Wharton has prior convictions for aggravated robbery, forgery, burglary, possession of drugs and a contraband charge for cases in 2013 and 2015.

Reno County District Judge Joe McCarville agreed to a special setting for sentencing on July 11.
