HUTCHINSON, Kan. — This month’s Coffee at the Cosmo will stay grounded on earth but will still provide an interesting look at a celestial event  Thursday morning.

Thursday’s program is entitled “The Greenland Impact Crater Discovery” by special guest presenter John Paden, Associate Scientist, Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets at the University of Kansas.

University radar systems measure the ice thickness of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and the data led to the discovery of a large impact crater beneath the ice in northwest Greenland.

Dr. Paden will talk about the radar systems used to map the crater, how the crater was discovered and verified, and discuss the ongoing work to understand how the ice sheet affected the impact.

As always, Coffee at the Cosmo is free. The program begins at 9 a.m.
