TOPEKA – A 38-year-old Colorado man arrested on I-70 in Wabaunsee County with more than a pound of meth has been sentenced to more than 15-years in federal prison. Antonio Esquivel-Rios, of Westminster, a suburb of Denver was sentenced to 188-months in federal prison.
In August 2011, a jury found Esquivel-Rios guilty of one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
During trial, prosecutors presented evidence that on May 11, 2010, a Kansas Highway Patrol officer stopped a gold Ford Windstar minivan that Esquivel-Rios was driving eastbound on I-70 in Wabaunsee County.
Investigators found the methamphetamine in a cellophane-wrapped package hidden in an air vent in the dashboard.
