The week of May 14th – May 18th is National Law Enforcement Week with Tuesday May 15th being Law Enforcement Memorial Day.
Sheriff Randy Henderson is asking the public to let officers know that you appreciate what they do for all of us.
There will be a brief ceremony celebrating this event at the Reno County Law Enforcement Center at 210 W. 1st, Hutchinson at 11a-m on Friday May 18.
Reno County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Darrian Campbell will be our speaker for the event with a special appearance being made by Miami Florida Police Lt Joe Schillaci, from A&E’s First 48.
Also speaking with be Sheriff Randy Henderson, Pastor Willard Stafford with the invocation, and Hutchinson Police Officer Lorenzo Bohringer honoring those fallen
“Taps” will come from Jeff Pelischek, Hutchinson Community College Director of Bands along with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard.
At 11:30 a-m, Hamburgers will be provided by Reno County Crime Stoppers and Civitan Club for all Law Enforcement and support personnel.
The public is welcome to attend the event in remembering those officers that put themselves in harms way on a daily basis and also those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Div. 3 courtroom.
Meanwhile, the names of three Kansans added to National Law Enforcement Memorial
Kansas Senator Jerry Moran Tuesday paid tribute to the more than 19,000 law enforcement officers who have laid down their lives to protect their fellow citizens. This year, 362 names were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, and among those names were three brave officers from Kansas: David Enzbrenner of Atchison; William Bloomfield of Bourbon County; and Andrew Balfour of Kiowa County.
Earlier in the day Tuesday, Sen. Moran attended the 31st annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day Service, held on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Since 1962, May 15th has stood as a day of remembrance for the many fallen police officers who faithfully served our communities and our country.
