HAVEN, Kan. — The weather won out on most of the wheat harvest over the weekend. Some grain was taken in before the rain and hail brought things to a standstill Saturday.

According to Tim Leslie with the Mid Kansas Co-Op in Haven, some fields may be a total loss from the hail Saturday evening. He reports some wheat being brought in Friday and Saturday and a test cut came in on Monday.

Test weights continue to run around 60 pounds and moisture was in the 12% range. No protein level was given.

With the forecast calling for hot, windy weather, farmers may finally get back in the fields later this week. To date, less than 5% of the wheat harvest has been cut statewide, well below last year’s 48%.
