HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire crews were once again involved in a rescue on the Arkansas River. Firefighters rescued two citizens from the river after they were displaced from their kayaks Saturday.

The pair entered the water at the 4th Street bridge. Approximately a half mile down, some tree debris in the river was present and the two became dislodged from their kayaks. One of the individuals was able to grasp an overhead branch and return to the bank. The other member of the pair was able to hold onto the branch until fire crews made contact. Another crew was able to assist the individual to the bank.

Meanwhile, a boat was deployed and entered the river to assist the rescued kayakers back to their vehicle because of difficult terrain. Hutch Fire was assisted by the Reno County Sheriff’s Department.

Both citizens were wearing life jackets.
