NEWTON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Hawks Jr. Legion baseball team clawed their way all the way back in the Class A, Zone 4  Jr. American Legion baseball tournament in Newton this week, but came up short to the host team Newton Jr. Knights Friday night in Newton, dropping that affair 9-8.

Tied 8-8 going into the bottom of the seventh, Newton’s Joel Franz got to 2nd base on an error. Then Newton’s Cade Valdez hit a single into center field to end the game.

Hutchinson was led at the plate by Carter Booe, who went three for three with two RBIs. Malaki Miller went two for four with an RBI.

Hutchinson, the 7th seed, rallied from a three-run deficit to stop second-seeded Junction City 5-4 in the Zone 4 semifinals. Hutchinson avenged a 5-2 loss to the Blues in the first round of the tournament.
