WICHITA, Kan. – The Hutchinson Monarchs advanced into the Sunflower Collegiate League Wildcard Championship game with a 9-6 win over the Derby Twins at Eck Stadium in Wichita Monday night.  Hutchinson will take on the Wichita Sluggers @ 5 pm Tuesday night.  The Sluggers eliminated the Great Bend Bat Cats 5-2 in the earlier evening game. The winners of the Monarchs vs Sluggers game gets an automatic bid to the NBC World Series that starts at Eck Stadium on July 27th.

The Monarchs scattered 12 hits, while giving up 11 hits.  Zack Philbin was strong in relief by pitching the past 3 innings only giving up 1 run.

In the SCL Championship series, Cheney Diamond Dawgs got by the Haysville Aviators 2-0 in game 1 of the best of 3 series.  They will play again Tuesday night @ 7 pm.  Both Cheney and Hayville have qualified for the NBC World Series that begins July 27th at Eck Stadium.
