Salty Dog and Salty Pup Triathlon scheduled this weekend

HUTCHINSON — A Hutchinson favorite, the Salty Dog & Salty Pup Triathlons, will take place Friday night and Saturday morning in Carey Park, hosted by Hutch Rec and presented by Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System.

The Salty Pup youth triathlon will feature 90 youth ages 6 to 15 years old and take place on Friday,  starting at 7 p.m. Participants swim 100 meters in the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center; followed by two loops around Carey Park Golf Course (4.2 miles); with a 1-mile finish along the Jim Martinez Trail, finishing outside the Homebuilder’s Shelter Building in Carey Park.

Entrances to Carey Park will close at 6 p.m. to traffic and will reopen once the Salty Pup Triathlon event ends, around 8:30 p.m. Salt City Splash Aquatic Center will close at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The Salty Dog adult triathlon will feature nearly 150 individuals and nine teams and takes place Saturday, starting at 7 a.m. in Carey Park. Participants swim 400 meters in the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center; followed by five loops around Carey Park Golf Course (10.5 miles); with a 5K finish along the Jim Martinez Trail, also finishing outside the Homebuilder’s Shelter Building in Carey Park.

Entrances to Carey Park will close starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday and will re-open once the Salty Dog Triathlon event ends, around 10 a.m.

Both events are a part of the Hutch Rec Race Series and one of the more popular sprint triathlon events in south-central Kansas. Participants travel from across the state, as well as Oklahoma and Missouri.
