2011 is “The Year of the Forest”, and to celebrate, a special ceremony was held Monday morning at the Kansas State Fair. The U-S Forest Service has commemorated the year with a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of the nations forest land.
To bring the “Sunflower State” into the mix, a special tree planting ceremony was held with a burr oak planted in Gottschalk Park near the gazebo.
The tree was planted with a small plaque which states the type of tree and why it was planted. The event was also sponsored by the Kansas State Forest Service, a long time sponsor of the Kansas State fair.
