Volunteers needed this week to help flood victims

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters, or VOAD, is requesting volunteers to assist residents of Reno County still recovering from flood damage.

The Reno County Emergency Management team and VOAD were contacted by almost 200 people with homes in Reno County that were damaged by flood waters this past spring. VOAD assisted many of those families, but the organization said it’s not done. There are still almost 20 families that still need help.

The Reno County VOAD has coordinated with disaster relief teams from Great Plains United Methodist Disaster Response and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief ministries, but has still not found enough volunteers.

There’s currently a small team from United Methodist Disaster Services headed this way that could use some additional volunteers to help with the efforts.

If you could commit some hours this week and are willing to work with this team, VOAD would like to hear from you.

You can call Jeff Tomsin at Interfaith Housing at 620-662-8370, extension 720, if you are willing to help. If he doesn’t answer, he asks that you leave a message and he will get back to you.
