Murder case still pending after Hutch man was stabbed to death

We’ll have to wait another few weeks to see how a murder case here in Reno County will proceed.

This has to do with a Hutchinson man accused of stabbing another man to death back in November.

The case against Aaron Alvarez is still pending after the defense again asked for a continuance in the case Wednesday. Sarah Sweet-McKinnon asked for the continuance because apparently the state has made some form of plea offer, but McKinnon told the judge that she has not been able to sit down and discuss the offer with her client because he’s being housed in the Butler County Jail, and may soon be moved to Ford County. She wanted the state to help her get him moved to the Reno County Jail, but that apparently isn’t possible, so they have delayed the case to the next waiver-status docket on June 27. Judge Trish Rose wants him at the Reno County Jail two or three days prior to that date to give McKinnon time to discuss the case with her client.

Alvarez is accused of stabbing 23-year-old Allen Frank to death after the two got into an altercation after Alvarez may have accidentally struck Frank’s girlfriend. The two then argued and Alvarez stabbed Frank in the abdomen. He was flown to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita where he died at around 12:29 a-m, on Thanksgiving morning.

Alvarez was arrested on Thanksgiving for intentional murder in the second degree and bond was set at 250-thousand dollars.
