HUTCHINSON, Kan. The Hutchinson city council approved two public works matters during Tuesday’s meeting. The first was a change order for the 23rd street overlay project near Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The change was needed after the base of the street was damaged and needed repairs. The additional cost is just over $185,136. The Council also approved an amendment to replace three pumps at the wastewater plant at a cost of $1.1 million.

A nod was given by the council to vacate an area of 50th Avenue in the Foothills Division. The right of way is undeveloped and the city has no plans to improve the area.

A resolution for refunding industrial revenue bonds was also approved in order to make improvements at Wesley Towers in the amount of $4.5 million and the demolition of a home at 522 E 1st. The home is under several code violations and the property owner can’t afford to renovate it. Since the Landmarks Commission can’t approve the demolition of a home in a historic area the council must take action to raze the structure.
