HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One day after the Jayhawk Conference thought highly of Hutchinson Community College freshman Katelyn Elstun’s defensive performance last week against Pratt, the NJCAA followed suit.

Elstun, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, was named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday. Elstun was named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Elstun registered a career-high 24 digs and five total blocks helped the Blue Dragons rally from a set down at Pratt to defeat the Beavers 3-2.
The freshman from Overland Park also had 31 service receptions with no errors.
Offensively, Elstun had 24 kills on 45 swings for a .422 attack percentage. With Hutchinson trailing 2-1 in the match, Elstun powered down 11 kills combined in the fourth and fifth sets to lead the comeback.
Elstun is the first Blue Dragon to earn NJCAA National weekly honors since Page Hiebert in 2017.
