HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Five NJCAA Nationally ranked teams will be in the eight-team field for the Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Sports Arena.
The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team will play three ranked opponents in the four matches the Blue Dragons will play in.
Matches are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday. Saturday matches will be at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The Blue Dragons jump right into the first with a 1 p.m. Friday matchup with No. 2-ranked Navarro College. The Dragons close out Day 1 with a 5 p.m. match against Jefferson College.
Hutchinson will play No. 14 Mineral Area at 11 a.m. on Saturday and finish the weekend with No. 10 Indian Hills at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Navarro is the highest-ranked team in the field. New Mexico Military is No. 5. Tyler Junior College, whose head coach is former Blue Dragon All-American Brandi Hood, is ranked seventh in the latest national poll. Indian Hills is No. 10 and Mineral Area is No. 14. Jefferson College and Missouri State-West Plains rounds out the field.
All four Hutchinson matches will be videostreamed by the Blue Dragon Sports Network. Those will be the only matches streamed.
Hutchinson will be playing matches 3, 4, 5 and 6 of a 12-match-in-14-day stretch. On Monday the Blue Dragons travel to Butler. On Wednesday, the Dragons go to Independence before heading to Tyler, Texas for the TJC Classic next weekend.
The Blue Dragons enter their own Classic with a 4-6 record. This week, the Dragons dropped a five-set home match to Barton and lost in four sets on Wednesday at Butler.
The Dragons home to turn around a tough offensive night against Colby where Hutchinson hit a negative .039 against the Trojans. Sophomore Eden Hiebert was the only player of the primary hitters to hit in positive numbers.
Hutchinson is hitting .167 as a team, averaging 10.39 kills per set. Hutch is also averaging 1.96 blocks, 1.66 service aces and 14.18 digs per set.
