MAIZE – The Kansas Cosmosphere & Space Center and Maize South Middle School are partnering to offer a space-themed book fair, hands-on robotics demonstrations and science discussions for 850 sixth- through eighth-graders and their families. This will be this Wednesday at the high school at 3403 North Tyler Rd. Hour are from 4-8 p-m.

Visitors can try their hand at maneuvering robots around an obstacle course — combating challenges similar to those faced by NASA’s Mars Rover operators.

Cosmosphere space-science educators, Maize South Middle School teachers and staff will be available to offer students and parents a better understanding of the state’s science education standards.

“The Cosmosphere’s mission is not only to preserve the history of spaceflight, but also to inspire future generations to explore our galaxy and beyond,” said Cosmosphere President and CEO Chris Orwoll. “Our involvement in community events like this lets students see the real-world application of what they learn in school. Our goal is to encourage their interest in science, math, and environmental studies by demonstrating the possibilities that await us in space.”
