HUTCHINSON, Kan. — With Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson announcing his intention to retire at the end of the year, the process begins to find his replacement. Since this is an elected position, Henderson’s replacement must come by appointment from the governor.

According to County Elections Clerk Jenna Fager, the Republican Party in the county will meet to provide a recommendation to the governor. The party has 21 days from Henderson’s official filing for retirement with the county to provide a recommendation.

Henderson is stepping down after 43 years in law enforcement. Henderson says he wants to spend more time with family.
