HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council gave the go-ahead to sell off the old fire station at B and Walnut during Tuesday’s regular meeting.

The sale of the fire station will come from sealed bids. The bids must include an offer and some detail regarding plans for the station. The station was vacated by the fire department in 2016.

The council wants to make sure the building benefits the downtown area. The council does not want the building to be used merely for storage.

The city will send out requests for proposals on the property. No timeline was given for when the council might make a decision on selling the station.

Also Tuesday, the council approved the rezoning of a parcel of land on East 23rd Avenue near Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The property is owned by Disability Supports of the Great Plains. The organization wants to build housing for clients.
