HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Cyclists and walkers who enjoy full use of the Martinez Trail will have to wait a little longer for the trail to fully open again. The trail has been closed around Ave. A while BNSF Railway replaces the bridge over the ditch.
The work was to be completed by the first of October but other projects took more priority so the schedule was pushed back to Oct. 15th. Now the project has been pushed back another week to Oct. 22. The trail has been closed so the railroad can prepare the site for replacing the bridge. Once the project starts in full it will take about 18 hours to replace the trestle.
Once the equipment is moved out of the area the dirt road covering the trail will be removed and the trial will be open again.
