The city of Buhler has been awarded a $25,000 grant through the Kansas Health Foundation’s Recognition Grants program. This money will help support new playground equipment at Wheatland Park.

This grant will allow an increased opportunity for physical activity. “The playground equipment was at the end of its life and was on its way to becoming a safety risk to our kids,” said Mayor Daniel Friesen, “this is a great way to leverage our limited tax dollars for the benefit of the community.”

This $54,000 project will be the culmination of efforts of local volunteer labor for installation, a donation by the BHS senior class of 2012 for their legacy project, the annual community Fun Run fundraiser, and equipment, labor, and up to $15,000 in additional funds from the city of Buhler. The city hopes to complete the project in late Summer and is soliciting additional volunteers and donations to further enhance the scope of the project.

Recognition Grants expand the Kansas Health Foundation’s support to a broad range of health-related organizations throughout the state. The program is targeted for organizations and agencies proposing meaningful and charitable projects that fit within the Foundation’s mission of improving the health of all Kansans.
