HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a new twist on an old scam going on in the county.

Authorities have received several reports about calls from people identifying themselves as employees of the sheriff’s office. The callers say a warrant has been issued for missing DNA .
The scammers claim the warrant is for a 10-day stay at the county jail unless the bond is paid off now.
Right now, the scammers are targeting registered offenders, but sheriff’s officials warn that others could be affected as well.
The numbers being used all have 620 area codes.
If you get a call like this, sheriff’s officials say you should get the caller’s name to verify that person does not actually work for the department.
