A 35-year-old man who was released from prison back in March funds himself is trouble for not registering as a violent offender as required by law.

Joseph Burton Jr., of 209 East Avenue A, was released from the Hutchinson Correctional Facility after being convicted of reckless 2nd Degree Murder in Geary County back in 1997.

He was in court for the failing to register charges, but was also arrested for allegedly being in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

In the failing to report case, his bond was set at 5-thousand dollars, while in the meth case, the bond was set at 7-thousand, 500-dollars. He requested a reduction of both bonds, but considering the new charges, and his criminal history, Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen denied the request.

He’ll be back in court on June 13, for consideration of formal charges in the meth possession case.
