HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Planning Commission will take action on a zoning request for the vacant Avenue B fire station during Tuesday’s meeting. The city wants to rezone the building from public institution to central business district.

The city put the station up for sale and has received some interest in the building. City Manager John Deardoff says several proposals have come in and they have provided tours of the facility. The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday.

The city put the building up for sale, but stressed that the building needed to become part of the central business district and not be used for storage or by a non-business trying to tap into the potential of the building’s location and appeal. Deardoff says action on the sale of the building could come in late December or early January.

Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Hutchinson city offices.
