Hutchinson Monarchs take out Newton Rebels with help from Detmer, 8-4

Hutchinson Monarchs beat Newton Rebels 8-4 on Thursday at Hutchinson,Ks-Hobart/Detter behind Tyler Detmer, who drove in three runs.

He singled in the first and sixth innings and doubled in the eighth inning.

Hutchinson Monarchs relied on Shane Martin to eat up innings en route to the win. Martin allowed one earned run, four hits and four walks while striking out three over seven innings of work.

The game’s last lead went to Hutchinson Monarchs thanks to a first inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on an error and a two-run single by Seth Wheeler.

After posting one run in the second, Hutchinson Monarchs again scored one in the eighth. In the second, Hutchinson Monarchs scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Lee, plating Terrell Brown.

Two runs in the top of the sixth helped Newton Rebels close its deficit to 4-2. An error and an error sparked Newton Rebels’ rally. Martin ended the inning by getting Ian Smith to fly out.

It didn’t take long for Hutchinson Monarchs to answer as it scored three runs of its own in the sixth. Hutchinson Monarchs scored on a bases loaded walk by Lee and a two-run single by Detmer.

One run in the top of the seventh helped Newton Rebels close its deficit to 7-3. A groundout by Andrew Quiles gave Newton Rebels life. Finally, Martin got Rodge Macy to strike out to end the threat.

A one-run ninth inning helped bring Newton Rebels within four. A sacrifice fly by Evan Thomas triggered Newton Rebels’ comeback. Finally, Michael Schoolcraft got Storm Marlar to strike out to end the game.
