The Hutchinson Community College football team dropped 12 spots in the latest NJCAA National Football Poll after a stunning loss at Air Force Prep last week.

Hutchinson suffered its first loss of the season after a 40-7 non-conference setback to Prep last Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Blue Dragons freefall all the way to No. 15 in this week’s rankings.

HCC fell out of the NJCAA top 10 for the first time the last 15 polls.

The Blue Dragons have now been ranked in 20 consecutive and 28 of the last 30 NJCAA football polls, the longest run as a ranked team since the mid-1990s, when it spent time in 29 consecutive polls.

Two other Jayhawk Conference schools are in this week’s national rankings.

Despite an 89-0 win over Highland on Saturday, Butler slipped one spot to fifth. Coffeyville is No. 16.

Defending national champion Navarro College remains No. 1 with Texas rival Blinn College close behind at No. 2.

Regardless of the loss, the Blue Dragons remain unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference play. The remaining six regular-season games will be played against conference opponents.

Hutchinson will play host to Highland Community College at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
