GREAT BEND – As expected a 39-year-old Great Bend man found guilty of murder in the killing of a 14-year-old cheerleader was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole. That was the sentenced handed down this morning by Barton County District Judge Hannalore Kitts for Adam Longoria.

He was convicted of Capital Murder for the August 2010 death of Alicia DeBolt. However, the state was not seeking the death penalty, rather a life sentence with no chance of ever getting parole and that is what happened.

The teen disappeared the weekend before she was due to start her freshman year at high school. Text messages show she thought she was going to a party. Her remains were found three days later, burned beyond recognition at the plant where Longoria worked.

Longoria’s team tried to point the finger at others who could have been involved in the killing, but the jury believed it was Longoria who committed the crime. Longoria was not at Tuesday’s hearing in Great Bend

Longoria also got consecutive sentences of 17 months for vehicular theft and seven months for theft.

Dawn DeBolt, the girl’s stepsister, said Longoria is a coward.

The murdered girl’s mother, Tamara Conrad, recounted how she had been told she could never have children and helped her husband raise his children. But at age 32, she found herself pregnant. She called Alicia was her “miracle baby.”

“This crime was a terrible tragedy for the family and community,” Kansas Attorney Generl Derek Schmidt said. “My thoughts and prayers are with the DeBolt family. I appreciate and commend the work of law enforcement, the prosecution and the court. Justice was served today.”

His office helped with the prosecution and included Special Assistant Attorney General Kevin O’Connor, who is an Assistant District Attorney in Sedgwick County, and is running for D-A in that county. Also assisting with the prosecution was Assistant Attorney General Andrew Bauch and Barton County Attorney Douglas A. Matthews.

Again, Longoria gets life with no chance of parole.
