Melissa Heatherington’s school-record six goals against Pratt last week earned the Hutchinson Community College freshman forward the NJCAA’s National Division I Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, the national office announced on Wednesday.

One day after earning Verizon Wireless/Jayhawk Conference honors, the Burnley, England native captured the program’s sixth National Player of the Week award.

On Sept. 7 against Pratt in the Lady Dragons’ home opener, Heatherington, a 5-foot-7 forward, broke two team records and tied two others in Hutchinson’s 12-0 victory over Pratt.

Heatherington broke single-game records for goals in a game (6) and points in a game (12). She tied single-game records for goals in a half (5) and points in a half (10).

After her four-goal outburst against Hesston College this past Monday, Heatherington now has a team-high 10 goals and 20 points through the team’s first five games.

Hutchinson closes a four-game homestand Wednesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. non-conference match against Northern Oklahoma at the USD 308 Athletic Complex.
