Both Hutchinson Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams are ranked in the Top 20 of the NJCAA Division I Hill N Dale Cross Country Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.
The Hutchinson men are ranked No. 17 in this week’s rankings, dropping six points from its Week 1 rank of No. 11. The HCC women are 20th this week after starting the season ranked 11th.
“Our goal is to stay in the Top 20 all season,” HCC head coach Dave Smith said.
The Blue Dragon men have finished fifth in the Wichita State/J.K. Gold Classic college division and were third at the Wichita Wild Wind Classic this past Saturday.
The HCC women were fifth at Wichita State and seventh last weekend at the Wichita Wild Wind Classic.
Freshmen have led the pack individually for the Blue Dragon cross country teams.
The men have been led by freshman Austin Lettau through the first two meets of the season. Freshman Maria Fernandez has been the women’s top runner through two meets.
Blue Dragon fans will have their only chance of the season to see the HCC cross country teams at home this Saturday when the second annual Blue Dragon Invitational will be contested beginning at 10 a.m. at Rice Park.
