HAYS – Not being able to sell alcohol on Sundays at events in the county such as races or Oktoberfest has prompted the Ellis County Commission to revisit the Sunday sales issue. In 2005, the commission passed a resolution allowing Sunday sales. That action prompted a protest petition and a public vote, in which Sunday sales was defeated in January 2006.
County Administrator Greg Sund says he questions that vote because it only included residents in unincorporated Ellis County. He also said action can’t be taken in time to allow beer sales at Sunday’s Midwest Deutsches Oktoberfest.
The county counselor is reviewing the law, and the commission will discuss Sunday alcohol sales again next month.
